About Keith R. Lyman
I believe that my clients should know who they are working with. I grew up in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Intending to be a journalist, but fascinated with the law, I attended Washburn University School of Law, graduating in 1978.
My legal career began as a prosecutor in Junction City, Kansas, but in 1979 I moved to Terre Haute, Indiana and started working in the civil practice of law. Over the next 27 years I was involved in a variety of legal pursuits, including the private practice of law, serving as a prosecutor, and teaching Business and Aviation law at Indiana State University.
I moved to Phoenix in 2006 and worked as an estate planning and elder law attorney, culminating with a partnership with a mid-town law firm. In January of 2015, it was time to return to what I enjoy most; working one on one with individual clients in my own practice setting.
My choice of practice areas addresses the various needs of many people in our community. I recognize that individual clients need expert guidance with whatever legal issue they are facing. To do that, it is imperative that I listen closely to my clients, knowing that the application of law depends on the individual fact situation.
As an estate planning attorney, I consider it critical to not only understand the law but to fully understand financial investments. For that reason, I enrolled in an in-depth and comprehensive financial planning course culminating in a Certified Financial Planner designation. The CFP course covers financial planning concepts, risk management, investment planning, estate planning, tax planning and retirement planning. Although no longer active, the knowledge gained is shared with my clients on nearly all planning matters.
You also need to hire an attorney who stays abreast with current developments in the law. Not only do I regularly enroll in continuing legal education programs, I present many programs for other professionals, keeping them up-to-date in my areas of practice, including estate planning, special needs planning, and trust planning. I speak regularly for the National Business Institute, traveled the country speaking for Professional Education Systems, Inc. (PESI), and have spoken for the Maricopa Bar Association.
My continuing interest in journalism has resulted in authoring "Teach Yourself Estate Planning in 24 Hours" published by Pearson Education, a division of Macmillan Publishing; "The Strategy of Long-Term Care - How Middle and Upper Middle Class America Qualifies for Medicaid" and acting as technical editor of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wills and Estates," published by Pearson Education.
I kept putting off filing Bankruptcy mostly because I was so afraid of my creditors coming after me. I found Mr. Lyman's picture and a little bit about him and I instantly knew he was the one. From day one he made me feel so much better. And when the Bankruptcy hearing day came, I was shocked at how fast and easy it went. I recommend him to everyone!!!
